Haiti: PM Ariel Henry resigns

Published

on

Haiti’s unelected prime minister, Ariel Henry, has announced that he will step down once a transition council and temporary replacement have been appointed.

He made this declaration in Jamaica on Tuesday.

Henry has been leading the country since the assassination of its last president in 2021.

During his time in office, armed gangs in Haiti grew in wealth, influence, and territory.

Henry had traveled to Kenya in February to seek support for a United Nations-backed security mission but faced escalating conflict upon his return, leading to him being stranded in Puerto Rico.
