The Minister of Health, Isaac Adewole seems to have bitten more than he could chew following the suspension of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) boss, Usman Yusuf.
Adewole had ordered Yusuf to proceed on three months suspension with immediate effect.
Elombah.com had, on July 7 reported that the NHIS boss was axed by the Minister over alleged fraudulent acts in the health insurance scheme running into N292 million.
Thereafter, the Federal Government appointed Mallam Attahiru Ibrahim as the NHIS Acting Executive Secretary.
Attahiru, who has since assumed Office, is an Economist whose wealth of experience has impacted tremendously in the policy implementation of NHIS programmes and activities.
However, the House of Representatives, on Thursday, annulled the suspension and recalled the embattled NHIS Executive Secretary.
The lawmakers slammed the Minister, saying that Yusuf’s suspension was an attempt to intimidate and punish him for testifying on issues of corruption in the sector.
In a motion debated and adopted on the floor of the Lower Chamber, the House concluded that the minister seemed to be victimizing Yusuf by suspending him.
The lawmakers, therefore, demanded that the NHIS boss be recalled from suspension with immediate effect.
They added that he should be allowed to continue with his “sanitisation” programme in the health agency.
The lawmakers said their decision was to protect witnesses/whistleblowers testifying in the House from intimidation.
