Heartbroken woman sets self on fire after divorce

A 40-year-old heartbroken woman, whose identity remains unknown, has set herself on fire after her divorce in Guri local government area of Jigawa State.

The spokesman of the command in Jigawa State, DSP Lawan Shiisu confirmed the sad incident in a statement on Friday.

He said the woman, a resident of Garin Mallam village, doused herself in petrol and ignited it, resulting in severe burns that rendered her beyond recognition.

The incident occurred on Thursday around 7:40am.

The Guri Divisional Police Headquarters swiftly dispatched a team to the scene, where they confirmed the incident.

According to Shiisu, the officers subsequently transported the remains to a hospital and later returned the body to the family for burial.

Shiisu noted that preliminary investigations suggest the woman had been battling with depression following her divorce.

Meanwhile, the state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ahmadu Abdullahi, urged individuals facing difficulties to turn to divine guidance and seek counsel from experienced elders to prevent such tragedies.
