A 26-year-old Ghanaian lawyer, Sarah Araba Tettey, has died after reportedly collapsing while celebrating Ghana’s 1-0 victory over Panama at the ongoing FIFA World Cup.
According to Ghanaian media outlet Citi Newsroom, the incident happened on Wednesday at Standard Hostel in Bomso, near the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
Tettey, a graduate of the university’s Faculty of Law, was said to have been watching the match with friends when she suddenly collapsed during the celebrations that followed Ghana’s win.
She was rushed to a hospital, where doctors reportedly tried to revive her, but she was later pronounced dead.
The late lawyer was called to the Ghana Bar earlier this year and was working with O & A Legal Consult at the time of her death.
News of her passing has triggered an outpouring of grief across social media, with friends, colleagues and former classmates paying tribute to her and describing her as a promising young professional whose life was cut short.
Her body has reportedly been deposited in a mortuary pending further arrangements.
As of the time of filing this report, neither her family nor medical authorities had officially disclosed the cause of death. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are expected to continue.
