HSV pulls off major transfer coup with Jordan Torunarigha signing
DDM News

Newly promoted Bundesliga club Hamburger SV are set to sign Super Eagles defender Jordan Torunarigha on a free transfer.
The 27-year-old is expected to undergo a medical later this week before the deal is officially confirmed by the club, Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathers.
Torunarigha recently ended his contract with Belgian side KAA Gent, making him available for a free transfer this summer.
He has now reached a full agreement with HSV, marking a significant step forward in his professional career.
HSV’s pursuit of the defender highlights the club’s strong intentions ahead of their return to Germany’s top-flight football.
Torunarigha attracted interest from clubs such as RSC Anderlecht, Olympique Marseille, and Bundesliga side 1. FC Köln.
However, HSV managed to win the race for his signature due to personal and professional connections within the club.
Sporting director Stefan Kuntz and head coach Steffen Baumgart played key roles in convincing him to join Hamburg.
Kuntz previously coached Torunarigha with Germany’s U21 and Olympic teams and maintained a strong relationship with the player.
That past connection helped pave the way for successful negotiations and an agreement beneficial to both parties.
Torunarigha stands at 1.91 metres and is known for his strength, speed, and ability to play from the back.
These attributes make him a natural fit for HSV’s style of play and tactical approach in the Bundesliga.
He brings a wealth of experience from both the German and Belgian leagues, adding depth to HSV’s defensive options.
Torunarigha began his senior career at Hertha BSC, making 73 Bundesliga appearances between 2016 and 2022.
He then joined Gent in 2022, where he featured in 145 matches and scored four goals in all competitions.
In 2023, he switched international allegiance from Germany to Nigeria, joining the Super Eagles national team setup.
This move to HSV marks a return to German football and a chance to revive his Bundesliga career.
It also reflects the club’s commitment to building a solid and experienced squad for the upcoming season.
For Torunarigha, it’s a homecoming and a chance to showcase his growth since leaving the Bundesliga.
For HSV, it represents a smart acquisition as they aim to remain competitive in the top division.
With the medical pending, the club is expected to confirm the transfer and present him to fans shortly.
