Nigerian socialite and digital creator Adeola Diiade has opened up about her experience making money from social media, claiming that she was the first Nigerian creator to receive payment directly from Snapchat.
Diiade made the claim while discussing her success as a digital creator, highlighting just how lucrative social media can become for people who build a strong online audience.
According to the socialite, her earnings from Snapchat can reach between $3,000 and $5,000 every two weeks.
What has particularly caught the attention of social media users is her description of the lifestyle that comes with the income. Diiade claimed that she can make these earnings without having to leave her bed.
“I was the first creator to be paid by Snapchat in Nigeria,” she reportedly said, while explaining the financial opportunities she has found through the platform.
Her revelation has generated conversations about the changing nature of work and the growing number of Nigerians making money through digital platforms.
For many years, social media was largely viewed as a tool for entertainment and communication. However, platforms such as Snapchat, TikTok, Instagram and YouTube have created new opportunities for creators to monetize their content and audiences.
Diiade’s claimed figures have also highlighted the significant gap between traditional employment and some forms of digital entrepreneurship. While not every creator earns at this level, successful influencer can generate income through platform monetization, brand partnerships, advertising, subscriptions and other digital opportunities.
The socialite has previously appeared in African entertainment and influencer circles, with her name also listed among nominees for the Africa Choice Awards.
Her latest revelation has once again placed attention on the financial possibilities available to creators who understand how to turn their online presence into a business.
However, Diiade’s reported earnings remain her personal claim and should not be interpreted as a typical income level for Nigerian Snapchat creators.
Still, her story offers another example of how the creator economy continues to change the way people think about earning a living.
For Diiade, what may look like simply being active on social media has reportedly become a source of thousands of dollars in income — all while enjoying the comfort of home.
