Nigerian singer Peruzzi has stirred conversations online after opening up about his rapid rise to fame and the personal sacrifices that came with it.

Speaking during a candid interview on Tope Olowoniyan TV, the artist revealed that his life changed almost instantly after being signed by Afrobeats superstar Davido in November 2017. According to him, the transition into stardom happened so fast that he had to abruptly cut off parts of his old life including a long-term relationship.

“When Davido signed me, I immediately ghosted my girlfriend I had been dating for seven years,” Peruzzi admitted. “He flew me to Dubai, and the next day we were already in Lebanon. Everything was happening too fast for me.”

The revelation has since sparked mixed reactions on social media. While some fans praised his honesty and acknowledged the overwhelming nature of sudden success, others criticized his decision to end a long-standing relationship in such a manner, describing it as insensitive. Many women, in particular, used the moment to advise against putting personal ambitions on hold for the sake of a partner.

Peruzzi also addressed long-standing rumors surrounding the music industry, particularly claims of supernatural assistance or “jazz” being responsible for the success of top artists. Dismissing such notions, he emphasized that his journey was built on talent and hard work.

“A friend once told me he knew a babalawo that did soap for Wizkid and Davido to blow,” he said. “But I refused because that’s not how I was raised, and I strongly believe in my songwriting.”

The singer, who previously studied medicine before dropping out to pursue music, credited his growth to dedication to his craft, especially songwriting, which eventually opened doors for him in the industry.

As the interview continues to trend, it has reignited discussions about fame, relationships, and the realities of success in Nigeria’s entertainment space highlighting the tough choices many artists face on their journey to the top.
