MAIDUGURI, Borno State — The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) have partnered to combat corruption in travel document processing and curb illegal migration through Borno State’s borders, authorities have confirmed.
The partnership, announced on Tuesday, is aimed at strengthening the integrity of travel document issuance, addressing security challenges associated with illegal migration, and enhancing inter-agency collaboration to protect the nation’s borders. According to officials, Borno State, which shares borders with Chad, Niger, and Cameroon, has become a strategic corridor for illegal migration and cross-border criminal activities. The ICPC and NIS are working to address the vulnerabilities in travel document processing, including the issuance of passports and other travel documents, which have been exploited by criminal networks.
The partnership is part of broader efforts by the federal government to strengthen border security and combat corruption in the public service. The ICPC has been at the forefront of anti-corruption efforts, while the Immigration Service is responsible for the control of entry and exit of persons into and out of Nigeria.
