Idahosa: Oshiomhole opposes son’s nomination as commissioner

Edo State Deputy Governor Dennis Idahosa has disclosed that former Governor Adams Oshiomhole opposed his son Dr. Cyril’s nomination as Commissioner for Health-designate.
According to the Diaspora Digital Media (DDM), Idahosa while speaking during an interview with Channels Television clarified that Cyril’s qualifications, not family ties, secured his appointment.
Idahosa stated that “Cyril’s accomplishments as a medical doctor qualify him to forge his own path, separate from his father Senator Adams Oshiomhole’s influence.”
“After completing his foundational education in Nigeria, he pursued additional studies in the United States, thereby acquiring the comprehensive qualifications required for a cabinet role.”
“His surname may be Oshiomhole, but Cyril’s qualifications make him the ideal candidate for Commissioner for Health,” Idahosa stated.
The deputy governor addressing concerns about favoritism, stated that “Cyril’s appointment was made independently of his father’s influence, citing his impressive educational background and medical expertise.
Idahosa revealed that Adams Oshiomhole opposed his son Cyril’s nomination as Commissioner for Health, emphasizing that the decision was based on the governor’s vision for Edo State and Cyril’s competence.
He emphasized that Cyril’s nomination as Commissioner for Health was driven by the need for effective governance and quality service delivery, dismissing concerns of state capture.
Idahosa further clarified his role in the administration, stating that his primary statutory function is overseeing the state’s boundary commission, which he chairs.
As confirmed by the Governor Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Fred Itua, Cyril Oshiomhole was appointed by Governor Monday Okpebholo last Tuesday as the new Commissioner for Health.
