Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun has appointed Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Nkechi Eze as the first-ever Director of the newly established Directorate of Force Medical Services, marking a significant milestone in the evolution of healthcare within the Nigeria Police Force.
The appointment follows the recent upgrade of the Police Medical Section to a full Directorate, a move aimed at enhancing healthcare delivery for officers and personnel nationwide.
The announcement was made in a statement issued on Thursday by the Force spokesman, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, who described the new Directorate as a critical step toward improving the welfare and productivity of police personnel.
IGP Egbetokun congratulated AIG Eze on her appointment and urged her to leverage her extensive experience to establish the Directorate as a standard for excellence in police healthcare.
“Nkechi Eze is a distinguished clinician, dental surgeon, and administrator with over 27 years of exemplary service,” the statement noted.
Born in Umuahia, Abia State, and originally from Agbudu in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State, AIG Eze holds a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) from the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) and a Master’s in Public Health (MPH) from the University of Benin.
Her career has spanned various medical formations in Oyo, Ekiti, Rivers, the Federal Capital Territory, and Lagos, where she made notable contributions to police healthcare and welfare.
IGP Egbetokun highlighted the establishment of the Directorate as a strategic investment in the well-being and operational efficiency of police personnel, stating: “The health and productivity of our officers are crucial to the Force’s effectiveness.”
AIG Eze’s leadership is expected to usher in a modernized and structured healthcare system within the Nigeria Police Force, boosting morale and enhancing service delivery.
