The ancient city of Ijebu Ode witnessed an unforgettable night of culture, music, and laughter as Nigerian music legends and comedians took the stage at the “Evening with Glo” event on Friday.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports that the colourful night, organized by telecommunications giant Globacom, marked the grand curtain-raiser for the 2025 Ojude Oba Festival and celebrated 20 years of Glo’s consistent sponsorship of the iconic cultural event.
The event, tagged “An Evening with Glo,” featured stellar performances from Juju music maestro, Evangelist Ebenezer Obey Fabiyi, and Fuji legend, Wasiu Ayinde Marshall, popularly known as KWAM 1 or K1 De Ultimate.
For over two hours, Ebenezer Obey thrilled the crowd with timeless philosophical tunes, evoking emotions of nostalgia and pride.
The packed Conference Hall was filled with guests singing and dancing along to his classics, reflecting the depth of his musical legacy.
KWAM 1 also brought his signature Fuji energy to the night, turning the venue into a rhythmic celebration of Yoruba heritage.
His performance was met with thunderous applause as the crowd chanted along, proving his music remains timeless and electrifying.
Popular comedians Gbenga Adeyinka, Bash, and media personality Kiekie added layers of humour and lightheartedness, keeping the audience in fits of laughter between the musical performances.
In a statement, Globacom emphasized that the event was a way to express gratitude to the Ijebu people for their loyalty and support over the years.
“We decided to bring together great sons and daughters of Ijebuland to celebrate our shared heritage,” the company said.
Globacom further described the artists as symbols of cultural pride. The company praised Ebenezer Obey as an “ageless icon whose sonorous and philosophical songs remain evergreen.”
KWAM 1 was also hailed as a “musical powerhouse whose unique brand of Fuji has captivated audiences across generations.”
Dignitaries at the event included the Olori of the Awujale of Ijebuland, Chief Mrs. Olukemi Adetona; the Coordinator of the Ojude Oba Festival Planning Committee, Professor Fassy Yusuff; and Chief Mrs. Bisi Osibogun, a prominent member of the committee and the Iyalode of Ijebuland.
The event was not just a musical and comedic show, but also a cultural reaffirmation of Ijebu pride and Yoruba heritage, as music, jokes, and shared values flowed effortlessly.
“Evening with Glo” has grown to become a key social feature of the Ojude Oba festival calendar, adding a modern twist to a traditional celebration that dates back over a century.
As the 2025 Ojude Oba Festival approaches, the kickoff event has once again proven Globacom’s firm commitment to cultural preservation and community connection.
For two decades, Glo has stood as a cultural partner, investing not just in entertainment, but in heritage, history, and unity.
The company’s efforts have helped elevate Ojude Oba from a local festivity into an international tourist attraction, drawing interest from far beyond the shores of Nigeria.
With this year’s milestone 20th anniversary of sponsorship, Globacom has reaffirmed its place not just as a tech brand, but as a true custodian of cultural identity.
Observers believe that the combination of music legends like Ebenezer Obey and KWAM 1 with newer faces like Kiekie also symbolizes a generational handshake, a blend of tradition and innovation.
The 2025 Ojude Oba promises more spectacles in the coming days, but the “Evening with Glo” has already set a high standard.
It celebrated not just music and laughter, but the enduring power of culture and the unity of a people deeply rooted in tradition.
Ijebu Ode, once again, has become the beacon of Yoruba pride.
And with the Glo-powered festivities in full swing, the heartbeat of Ijebuland is louder than ever.
