IMO: Police rescue 4 persons from suspected kidnappers, kill 2

Imo state police command have rescued three women and one man from the hand of Suspected criminals.

The Command achieved this recent breakthrough in it’s fight against crime, by dismantling a notorious kidnapping and armed robbery syndicate in Umuokanne, Ohaji/Egbema LGA.

It should be recalled that the command has recorded this type of victory within two weeks, where 3 suspects were killed and 2 others arrested at Orogwe, Owerri West LGA.

The Command’s spokesman, Henry Okoye, confirmed this latest operation, on January 4, 2025.

Acting on intelligence, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit responded swiftly to a distress call at about 12:00 PM, reporting the abduction of 3 women and one man.

Upon locating the kidnappers’ hideout, a gun battle ensued, resulting in the death of two suspects and the successful rescue of the hostages.

The freed victims were identified as Carolyn Didia, 42; Ego Odu, 48; Apollonia Ezekwe, 40; and Godwin Ezekwe, 37.

During the operation, the police recovered an AK-47 rifle, 21 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, and a magazine.

However, two victims sustained gunshot wounds during the confrontation. They were immediately transported to Oforola Health Centre, where they are responding to treatment.

Okoye reiterated the command’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property in the state.

Investigations are ongoing to track down any remaining members of the criminal gang.

The police further urged Imolites to report suspicious activities around the state.

He emphasizied the importance of community collaboration in maintaining public safety.

According to him, the government of Imo state led by Senator Hope Uzodinma and the Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma have vowed to eradicate criminals from the state.
