One day, civil servants will retire and live a private life.

One day, another person will take the seat you now occupy.

One day, you will lock your door but never reopen it.

One day, you will wash your best clothes but never wear them again.

One day, your favorite meal will be prepared, but you will not eat it.

One day, you will eat and drink what you will never excrete.

One day, your CV and work experience will cease to matter.

One day, even the one who loves you most will keep their distance.

One day, you will think of what you cannot accomplish.

One day, you will be described as a corpse.

One day, you will be isolated in the grave.

One day, your loved ones and possessions will mean nothing to you.

One day, you will hold your breath and never release it.

One day, you will stand before God as Judge.

One day, flies and termites will come, and you cannot chase them.

One day, you will receive a call you cannot decline.

One day, your name will be called, but you will not answer.

One day, your cherished assets will be taken by another.

One day, your deeds on earth will be played back like a CD.

One day, “Late” will be added to your name.

One day, God will assign you to your eternal place.

One day, your body will return to dust.

One day, your verbs will change from “is” to “was.”

One day, you will receive an eternal home in Paradise or Hell.

One day, you will not hold or type on your phone again.

Conclusion

The piece concluded that people must live gently and in peace with all.

It urged avoidance of evil, maltreatment, and arrogance in wealth, riches, wisdom, and power.

It reminded that worldly things vanish, but good works remain eternal.

It stressed that only good deeds will be remembered after death.

The statement closed with the timeless message: “Only remembered by what you have done.”

In the eye of the storm: Can Manchester United avoid relegation?

Published

on

It’s been 50 long years since Manchester United faced relegation.

Legend has it that Denis Law, a club icon, sealed their fate with a backheeled goal for Manchester City, a moment he chose not to celebrate.

However, the reality was that United’s doom was already sealed in the 1973-74 season, regardless of Law’s goal.

As the years passed, English football became increasingly dominated by wealth, and United managed to attract more financial power than anyone else.

Few imagined that history could repeat itself.

Fans have grown accustomed to seeing a different Manchester United, but this season feels particularly alarming.

In a recent match against Newcastle, which saw the visitors dismantle United for the first half-hour, head coach Ruben Amorim made a shocking statement.

When asked by Reporters if United was in danger of relegation, he candidly replied, “I think that it is a possibility. We have to be clear with our fans.”

The broader picture reveals a grim reality: Manchester United lost six matches across all competitions in December, marking only the third time in their history they have faced such a struggle in a single month.

They also conceded 18 goals, matching their worst monthly total since March 1964.

Since Amorim took charge on November 24, only Southampton has lost more matches than United among Premier League clubs.

As New Year’s Eve draws near, United sits in 14th place, marking their lowest ranking at this time since 1989.

The crisis escalates as United suffers three consecutive home league losses, a first for the club since February 1979.

They now grapple with three consecutive Premier League defeats in one season, a troubling record not seen since December 2015 under Van Gaal.

Amorim faced the media and made a stunning admission: “It is also my fault,” he said, feeling the pressure.

“The team is not improving. It feels a bit lost at this moment,” he added, acknowledging the dire situation.

Some shocks are monumental, while others are devastating, and United fans face both possibilities this season.

Missing out on the Champions League would hit the club hard, costing Manchester United around £10 million from their Adidas sponsorship.

This figure is well-known among football circles, but relegation would force finance director Roger Bell to investigate parachute payments.

If cost-cutting is urgent now, what will happen if United faces a season with 46 club games, including midweek trips?

If current League One standings hold, Ryan Reynolds and his Wrexham club could find themselves in the same division as United.

What an intriguing storyline that would create for fans and media alike, sparking widespread interest and conversation!

Historically, four teams have faced relegation in the Premier League after finishing the year in United’s current 14th position.

While it may not reach that point, the situation at Old Trafford clearly shows a pressing need for new talent.

Sadly, financial resources remain tight for a club that reported a staggering £113.2 million loss for the year ending June 2024.

Amorim stated, “We don’t have that possibility in January if we don’t take some players [out].”

He acknowledged the financial constraints and the challenges of altering the squad.

Selling players could offer a possible solution, yet what is the market value of Casemiro?

Once a star at Real Madrid, he now seems lost in the Premier League, with only 18 months remaining on his contract.

Then there’s Joshua Zirkzee, who arrived from Bologna for £36.5 million but struggled to make an impact.

He managed just 33 minutes in this chaotic match before being replaced by Kobbie Mainoo, earning applause from the crowd.

Amorim reflected, “It was a very difficult moment. He is a human being.”

After a brief visit to the dressing room, Zirkzee returned to a more supportive atmosphere.

Still, finding him a meaningful role in the squad remains a challenge.

England forward Marcus Rashford rejoined the matchday squad following a four-game absence but remained on the bench.

United faced their fourth consecutive defeat across all competitions during this match.

Throughout this difficult stretch, the team has not managed to score a single goal, adding to the pressure.

Amorim emphasized that he wasn’t deliberately leaving Rashford out, but his inability to secure a spot raises concerns.

“I just want to win the game,” Amorim emphasized, clearly focused on the team’s needs above all else.

Champions League: Man City, Real Madrid, PSG risk elimination

Published

on

With just three matches remaining in the Champions League league phase, tension mounts.

Manchester City and Juventus face significant danger ahead of their crucial clash on Tuesday.

Also, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain find themselves struggling in 24th and 25th places, respectively.

The stakes are high, as the teams finishing between 25th and 36th will be eliminated from the tournament.

Moreover, they will have no alternative access to the Europa League.

To advance automatically into the round of 16, teams must secure a top-eight finish. Those landing in ninth to 24th positions will enter a playoff round in February.

Winners from this playoff will claim the remaining eight spots in the knockout stage. Therefore, the pressure mounts on these heavyweight clubs as they aim for qualification.

Currently, four prominent teams in European football are at risk. Paris Saint-Germain faces the possibility of full elimination.

Meanwhile, reigning champions Real Madrid hover just above the drop zone in 24th place. Manchester City struggles in 17th, far from a coveted top-eight position.

Juventus, sitting in 19th, prepares to face City in what could be a pivotal match for qualification.

This week’s essential Champions League fixtures includes several key matchups. On December 10, Atalanta takes on Real Madrid while RB Salzburg faces PSG.

The following day, Juventus clashes with Manchester City. These matches could determine the fate of several teams.

Real Madrid’s upcoming trip to Atalanta could not come at a worse time. The holders of Europe’s elite trophy have struggled throughout this competition.

Defeats to AC Milan, Lille, and Liverpool have marred their campaign. Facing Atalanta, who remain unbeaten, poses a significant challenge for Madrid.

Gian Piero Gasparini’s side has performed well, defeating Young Boys, Stuttgart, and Shakhtar Donetsk. Despite their struggles, Madrid can draw confidence from their previous encounter with Atalanta.

Earlier this season, they secured a 2-0 victory in the UEFA Super Cup. Kylian Mbappe scored his first goal for Los Blancos in that match.

This memory may provide a psychological boost as they prepare for the upcoming clash.

Meanwhile, Manchester City and Juventus also find themselves in a precarious position. They sit level on points, with City ahead due to goal difference.

Their match on Tuesday could be decisive for both clubs. City recently ended a losing streak with a win against Nottingham Forest.

However, they faltered again against Crystal Palace, dropping crucial points in a 2-2 draw.

Juventus, under the guidance of Thiago Motta, is undergoing a rebuilding phase. They possess several young, promising players.

Looking ahead

The knockout stages of the 2024/25 Champions League are fast approaching. The knockout round playoffs will take place on February 11/12 and February 18/19, 2025.

The round of 16 will follow on March 4/5 and March 11/12, 2025.

The quarter-finals are scheduled for April 8/9 and April 15/16, 2025. Meanwhile, the semi-finals will occur on April 29/30 and May 6/7, 2025.

The final of the 2024/25 UEFA Champions League will take place in Munich at the Allianz Arena on May 31, 2025. As the competition progresses, teams must focus on their performances.

The next few matches will be critical in determining who advances and who faces elimination. The pressure is on for Manchester City, Juventus, Real Madrid, and Paris Saint-Germain as they navigate this challenging stage of the tournament.

IGBO EZE NORTH LGA SOON TO HAVE ANOTHER RURAL ROAD REHABILITATED: All thanks to Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi

Published

on

By

It was a rare and memorable session on Monday the 29th of August 2022, as his Excellency, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, the Executive Governor of Enugu State, received in audience at Government House Enugu, a high powered delegation of Okpo Youths Association (OYA) who were on a working and sensitization visit to intimate him with our request to collaborate with his government to reconstruct the Mkpamute — Okpo — Amaja — Ikpamodo major road.

It can be recalled that the famous Concerned Igbo Eze North Youths(CINY) was formed in 2019 as a community response to the woeful plight of users of this road. After seeing what our parents and school children pass through day and night trying to access that road, I convoked an assembly of greater Igbo Eze North and begged them to chart an enduring advocacy for this road. We begged Government to declare state of emergency on all roads in Igbo Eze North. We protested, appealed and countenanced our political stakeholders for this sake.

Two years later, seeing the adamant situation of things, I appealed to all villages in Igbo Eze North to form a parallel youth pressure groups and continue the struggle. I led by example and OYA was formed five months after. And as it pleased our amiable members to trust me with the mandate of President General, I swung into action to reward their confidence.

And after a one-in-town capacity building symposium on educating our people on the danger of social vices and capital crimes held on 27th August, 2022 at Okpo Umuoma Primary school, I and my workaholic executive officers placed priority on getting the attention of Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi to this all-important road in Igbo Eze North. As usual, considering his tight schedules, it was not easy to secure his audience. Our thanks and endless appreciation goes to the Executive Chairman of Igbo Eze North LGA, Engr. Ejike Itodo for making the impossible possible in this regard. A local idiom in Nsukka said that: “Oke eshu luburu n’ udo oke umadu nye ye oso” (Desperate situations demands expertise of desperate men). Hon. Itodo along with Hon. Mike Onyeze made this august visit possible.

His Excellency gave us a fatherly welcome and broke the news we had craved for all these while. We presented him with our plan to flag off a segment of the manifestly dilapidated road network. He was happy with our submission. In his own words: “the state government will gladly partner with your efforts in getting that road done.”

It was the bold statement we spent three years expecting. And here we had it from the white lion himself. On our own side we promised Ugwuanyi of our unalloyed support to his lofty landmark government agenda. We as a people will key into his visionary leadership in the state. Okpo political patronage bloc goes to Ugwuanyi’s generous political plans. Lives in our community has been esoterically unresolving. But Ugwuanyi’s magic hand is extended and our people are hissing a sigh of relief.
Socio-physical upliftment stares our communities in the faces, and we are grateful to Gov. Ugwuanyi’s kindness.

As we look forward to the Government shifting the machinery down for the project, we urge our peiple to provide the genial atmosphere and cordial environment for smooth execution.

Indeed, Enugu is in the hand of God!

– Maazi Chukwudi Onuh
President General, OYA.

How We escaped from Unknown Gunmen at Ukpor, Anambra State

Published

on

We went for my in-laws burial yesterday at Oboma Ukpor, Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

We were driving a Hilux van and our eyes saw death as we escaped from some 17-21 yrs boys.

The gunmen stopped us and chased after us and our kinsmen who were in two buses.

My younger brother took Ihiala and headed straight and we called and told him to come to the catholic church straight around 12pm.

Two boys came out from the bush and chased after him and stopped him. He was driving a Ford Truck, and so zoomed off with one of our brothers in front.

The boys were shooting and chasing him but my brother finally got to the church premises.

The boys came after him on their bikes and wielding AK 47.

The villagers are not afraid of them anymore. They asked my brother why he was running.

My mother and elder brother went out immediately to meet the gunmen and explained to them that my brother was rushing late for our fathers burial.

They then lied my brother down in front of church and demanded for the Hilux vehicle for their patrol.

It was a very long story but simply…. No one should move around with any Truck, Hilux or any vehicle that looks like Hilux and Sienna within that Ihiala, Ukpor, Amanachi, Omuma Road axis.

It is a death trap!

Only God saved us and while returning we took the Onitsha route back home.

This is war!

The bullet entered and was trapped. Please avoid those areas
