(DDM) – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the Zamfara State House of Assembly by-election for Kaura-Namoda South Constituency inconclusive.

DDM gathered that the announcement was made at the Kasuwar Daji Collation Centre on Saturday, August 16, 2025.

According to the results released, the All Progressives Congress secured 6,999 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party polled 5,339 votes.

This left the APC ahead with a lead margin of 1,660 votes after collation.

The detailed breakdown across the six wards showed APC leading in four, while PDP won in two.

In Kagara Ward, APC recorded 783 votes, while PDP secured 682.

At Saka Jiki Ward, APC scored 1,021, while PDP managed 359.

Kurya Ward results revealed APC with 983 votes against PDP’s 1,580.

Dan Isah Ward had APC securing 1,887 votes, with PDP polling 592.

Despite the APC’s overall lead, INEC ruled the election inconclusive due to irregularities.

The commission said supplementary elections will be conducted in three polling units of Kyanbarawa Ward.

It added that reruns would also be held in two polling units of Saka Jiki Ward.

INEC maintained that only after these supplementary polls will the eventual winner be determined.

The electoral body assured that the new date for the rerun would be announced soon.

By declaring the exercise inconclusive, INEC reaffirmed its position on ensuring fairness and credibility in the process.

Political analysts note that inconclusive elections have been a recurring feature in Nigeria’s democratic journey.

They often occur when irregularities, violence, or cancelled polling units make it impossible to declare a clear winner.

In Zamfara, the stakes remain high, with APC and PDP both eyeing the crucial state constituency seat.

Observers say the supplementary election will determine which party consolidates its influence in the area.

For voters in Kaura-Namoda South, the wait continues as political uncertainty lingers until INEC completes the process.

The decision has already triggered mixed reactions among party supporters across the constituency.

While APC members expressed confidence that the rerun will not change their lead, PDP supporters believe the rerun favors them.

INEC’s handling of the supplementary polls will likely shape public confidence in its electoral management.
