Following the media buzz that, one week ago, trailed the emergence of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the Best Performing Nigerian public Institution, one would have expected a dramatic new twist in the African Leadership Magazine poll results.
However, 4 days to the close of voting, INEC has yet solidified its lead as the Best Performing Public Institution in Nigeria, with an increased 33.3% of the total vote cast.
The poll results continue to show that Nigerians recognize and nod the ingenuous efforts and commitment of the electoral umpire to conduct free, fair, and transparent elections in Nigeria, amidst the challenges the electoral body is faced with in the country.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) polled 16.7 percent of the vote cast to also maintain the second position.
The Nigerian Immigration Service clinched 12% to be at the third position.
Meanwhile the Nigeria Customs Service, Nigeria Universities Commission and the Nigerian Communications Commission are at a tie in the fourth position with 8.3% of total vote cast.
At the fifth position are the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND), Nigeria Investment Promotion Council (NIPC) and the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), also at a tie with 4.2% of total vote cast.
In line with the criteria for participating in the poll, these public institutions which have emerged Nigeria’s Top Performing public institution have been accountable and transparent in carrying its mandate.
This is in line with Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari’s posturing of Zero-tolerance for corruption.
They have been ingenuous and innovative in its processes, systems and procedures, positively delivering on its mandate, as it affects the citizenry.
And they have also in the last one year executed developmental projects or policies that have enhanced the lives of the people of Nigeria.
The Poll tagged “Good Performance Poll for Nigeria’s Top Performing Institution” is one of the Magazine’s strategic public engagement tool, aimed at engendering healthy competition, promoting good performance, and fostering excellent service delivery among public institutions in Nigeria, through the lenses of Nigerians.
The Magazine would recognise and honour the Top Performing Public Institution and its leadership for the outstanding work in improving the lives of the people, and their contributions towards the growth and development of the country.
It also features some of the milestones and achievements of the top performing institutions on its platforms.
The following institutions have been dropped from the competition In line with one of the terms of the poll that five (5) of the shortlisted institutions with the least vote will be dropped from the poll every 7 days.
1. The Consumer Protection Commission- CPC,
2. Corporate Affairs Commission- CAC,
3. Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission- NERC,
4. National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency- NESREA, and,
5. The Standard Organisation of Nigeria- SON.
The poll which is still on-going will close on Thursday, 27 October, 2016, at 6pm.
