Share this:

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has directed all Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) to halt preparations and publicity for the planned nationwide voter revalidation exercise.

The exercise, initially scheduled to begin on April 13, 2026, was part of efforts to update Nigeria’s voter register ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a new directive issued by the commission’s secretary, Rose Oriaran-Anthony, RECs were instructed to suspend all ongoing arrangements, including personnel mobilization and deployment of voter enrolment devices, pending further notice.

INEC also announced a change in its upcoming meeting with RECs, stating that the session earlier planned as a physical gathering on April 9 will now be held virtually.

Commissioners have been advised to remain in their respective states and await further instructions, including login details for the virtual meeting.

The electoral body expressed regret over any inconvenience caused, but emphasized that all activities related to the voter revalidation exercise must be put on hold until new directives are issued
