Injury forces Ndidi to pull out of AFCON squad

Wilfred Ndidi has been ruled out of Nigeria’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations campaign because of injury.

The 27-year-old Leicester City defensive midfielder who was named in the Super Eagles’ 25-man squad on 29 December missed his team’s home win over Huddersfield Town Monday on account of this injury.

In a statement on Wednesday, Babafemi Raji, Super Eagles media officer, announced that the Leicester City midfielder will be replaced on the team by Alhassan Yusuf.

Both Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro as well as the team administrator have since contacted Alhassan Yusuf to report to the AFCON training camp in Dubai, which opened yesterday.

Alhassan has yet to be capped by the Super Eagles despite his fine run in Belgium with double champions Antwerp.

He was only named on a 40-man provisional squad for the AFCON before his late call-up.
