Int’l Day of the Girl Child: “Let’s empower girls and address their challenges,” NNPP calls
The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), on the occasion of 2024 International Day of the Girl Child, has called for joint efforts to empower girls and address their challenges.
This was contained in a statement signed by NNPP National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Ladipo Johnson to commemorate the day.
Mr. Johnson noted that girls in Nigeria continue to confront numerous obstacles, including gender-based violence, limited access to education, healthcare, empowerment, and cultural restrictions.
The party urged government institutions, allied organizations, and society as a whole to unite against the challenges hindering girls’ empowerment and development, fostering a brighter future for them to reach their full potential.
The political party stressed that girls deserve a safe, educated, and healthy life, from childhood to adulthood.
“The NNPP candidate’s campaign suspension underscores the urgent need for a collective response to the long-standing issues hindering girls’ growth and development.”
“It’s crucial that government institutions, and society at large, unite to address these challenges and promote a shared agenda for empowerment.”
The party said: “The legacy of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso in promoting girl-child development in Kano State is truly commendable.
“His pioneering efforts have paved the way for significant progress in this area. Now, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s outstanding leadership is revitalizing this legacy, further empowering young girls in the state.
“The moment has arrived for the genuine liberation of girls through rigorous enforcement of laws and steadfast advocacy, prioritizing access to quality education, healthcare, safety, and protection from gender-based violence, rape, and cultural restrictions, ultimately empowering them.
“The statement emphasized that these challenges can block girls’ paths to a brighter future.
“Hence, focused institutional initiatives are essential to rally necessary support and resources, facilitating girls’ self-awareness, empowerment, and overall fulfillment.
