Ipob fires back at Buhari, says Biafran emergence beyond him

Ipob said the ongoing struggle for actualization of Biafra is beyond both Buhari & others who derives honour for having fought for the country’s unity

The Indigenous People of Biafra [IPOB] said the ongoing struggle for the actualization of  Biafra as a country is beyond both President Muhammadu Buhari and others who derives honour for having fought for the country’s unity between 1967 and 1970.

IPOB said most people in the country no longer believe in Nigerian unity and asked those around Buhari to advise him properly since there was no longer basis for such unity anymore.

IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Comrade Emma Nmezu said this in a statement signed by him and co-spokesman, Clifford Iroanya, in Enugu on Thursday.

He wondered why  President Buhari advised Igbo youth corps members serving in his home town (Daura) to stop the struggle for Biafra because, according to him, “it will not be a reality.”

Hear him:

“Buhari must understand that a nation develops organically and is predicated on the commonality of shared value systems.

“A nation is markedly different from a country even our colonial masters know this.

“That is why Scotland which is a nation can seek independence from Britain which is a country.

“The same way that Biafra a nation is seeking her independence from Nigeria.

“Buhari must know that Nigeria may claim to be a country but definitely not a nation.

“Muhammadu Buhari should also understand that unity cannot be force-fitted or enforced by one region on other regions within a geographical expression.

“This is why David Cameron, immediate past British Prime Minister, did not deploy troops to Glasgow or Edinburgh with rules of engagement (ROE) to kill innocent Scottish people in the quest to preserve “One Britain”.

“If Britain our colonial masters and the creator of Nigeria can allow the Scots to determine their fate, how much more their product Nigeria refusing the nation of Biafra the same right.

“Therefore the assertion by Buhari that Biafrans must stay together with the rest of Nigeria is not enforceable under any known law on this planet earth.

“The United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People (UNDRIP) makes it clear that Biafrans have the inalienable right to be on their own as a sovereign nation.

“The right to self-determination is not synonymous with war or violence.”

Recently, IPOB, raised an alarm over perceived move to assassinate its leader, Nnamdi Kanu inside the prison custody on October 1, during Nigeria’s 56th independent anniversary celebration.

It said government has refused several court orders, which directed that Kanu be released from the prison custody unconditionally.

Now it has embarked on several assassination attempts on the life of the IPOB leader, it alleged.

He added that  having failed to assassinate him on so many attempts, the FG has now  set  October 1  date for his assassination.

In the press statement issued to newsmen and signed by spokespersons, Barr. Emma Nmezu and Dr. Clifford Iroanya, IPOB wondered why the Federal Government is abandoning its prosecution of Kanu and going for the option of his assassination.

According to the statement, “What is the rationale behind government’s preference for the freedom of a terrorist and mass murderer over compliance with the rulings of courts of competent jurisdictions?

“Even with his limited education and non-existent leadership training plus lack of updated skills in modern and democratic governance, Buhari should at least respect the constitution of the country he is claiming to be the president of.”
