Iran Confirms Several Countries Seeking Safe Passage Amid Tensions

(DDM) – Iran has revealed that multiple countries have contacted Tehran to request assurances for the safe passage of their vessels through key regional waterways amid rising security concerns.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports that Abbas Araghchi, a senior Iranian diplomat, made the disclosure during an interview on Face the Nation, emphasizing that the Iranian military evaluates and approves such requests before allowing ships to transit.

“I cannot mention any country in particular, but we have been approached by a number of countries who want to have a safe passage for their vessels,” Araghchi stated, underlining Tehran’s role in coordinating maritime security.

He noted that while tensions in the region have increased, Iran has not closed the strategic strait and continues to allow international vessels to navigate the corridor under controlled conditions.

Araghchi explained that Iran has provided security arrangements for ships permitted to transit, ensuring their safety despite the heightened risk in the area.

According to the diplomat, the current insecurity stems largely from what he described as aggressive actions by United States forces, creating uncertainty for global shipping operations.

These developments have prompted some governments and shipping companies to seek direct assurances from Iran before sending their vessels through the strategic maritime route.

Araghchi emphasized that the continued movement of ships is evidence that Tehran remains committed to facilitating maritime trade while safeguarding its national security interests.

Observers note that the situation highlights the growing geopolitical sensitivity of regional waterways, with global powers closely monitoring the security of international shipping lanes.

The Iranian statement also suggests that while the strait remains open, countries must coordinate with Tehran to ensure safe passage, reflecting the complex balance between security and international trade in the region.
