Iran, Israel exchange hypersonic strikes amid rising tensions

Iran escalated hostilities with Israel by launching hypersonic missiles at Tel Aviv early Wednesday. Consequently, this attack intensifies fears of a widening regional conflict. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed responsibility, labeling it the “11th wave” of Operation Honest Promise 3. Moreover, Iranian state media reported that the strikes caused panic, with the IRGC boasting they “repeatedly shook shelters.”

Hypersonic missiles, which exceed five times the speed of sound, evade traditional defenses due to mid-flight maneuvers. Additionally, Iran deployed drone swarms, though Israel intercepted two over the Dead Sea. Meanwhile, Israel retaliated with airstrikes on Tehran, targeting weapons factories and nuclear facilities. The Israeli military warned civilians to evacuate, signaling a dangerous escalation.

Rising Death Toll and Evacuations

The conflict has already claimed dozens of lives on both sides. Specifically, Israel reported 24 fatalities, while Iran claimed 224 deaths, including military personnel and scientists. Furthermore, residential areas suffered heavy damage, prompting mass evacuations. Over 700 foreigners fled Iran for Azerbaijan and Armenia, including Americans and Europeans.

The U.S. State Department temporarily closed its Jerusalem embassy but has not finalized evacuation plans. Meanwhile, global leaders urge restraint as civilian displacement grows.

Trump Demands “Unconditional Surrender”

Former U.S. President Donald Trump demanded Iran’s surrender in a Truth Social post. Although he hinted at targeting Iran’s Supreme Leader, he ruled out immediate action. Instead, he deployed the USS Nimitz and additional aircraft to the region.

International backlash followed swiftly. For instance, France’s Macron urged diplomacy, while Turkey’s Erdogan condemned Netanyahu as a regional threat.

Nuclear Facilities Targeted

Israel’s strikes damaged Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, including the Natanz enrichment site. The IAEA confirmed direct hits, raising proliferation concerns. Israel, suspected of possessing 90 warheads, insists its strikes prevent Iranian nuclear development.

Global leaders push for dialogue to avert war. Egypt’s Foreign Minister separately urged Iran and the U.S. to de-escalate. However, neither side shows willingness to retreat.

As Tehran residents stockpile supplies and Tel Aviv shelters fill, the world watches anxiously. With no resolution in sight, the crisis threatens to spiral further, demanding urgent diplomatic intervention.
