The head of Judiciary of Iran, Gholam Hossein Mohseni Ejei, has called for the rapid enforcement of death sentences against individuals accused of collaborating with United States and Israel, as war enters third week.
Speaking on Monday, Ejei said there should be no delay or leniency in carrying out final verdicts against those allegedly linked to what he described as “aggressor enemies” during the ongoing war.
“We must not delay or show leniency in executing final verdicts against those who, during wartime and unrest, committed crimes and were affiliated with the aggressor enemy,” he said, according to Iran’s Tasnim News Agency.
He also directed authorities to speed up investigations and legal proceedings involving individuals accused of threatening national security.
Iranian authorities have reportedly carried out widespread security raids across the country in recent weeks, arresting hundreds of people suspected of cooperating with the United States and Israel.
Local media reports said many of those detained are under investigation for alleged espionage and other activities considered a threat to public security.
The crackdown follows the outbreak of war on February 28, when Israel and the United States launched strikes on Iran that reportedly killed Iran’s longtime Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Following his death, his son Mojtaba Khamenei emerged as the country’s new Supreme Leader.
Since the attacks, Iran has launched retaliatory strikes targeting Israeli territory and American interests across the Middle East, deepening fears of a broader regional conflict.
