Iran Threatens to Shut Down Hormuz Completely if US Attacks Power Plant

Iran has warned it will completely shut down the Strait of Hormuz if the United States carries out threats to strike its energy infrastructure.

The warning came from Iran’s Revolutionary Guards on Sunday, in response to remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump, who had threatened to “obliterate” Iranian power plants unless Tehran reopens the vital shipping route within 48 hours.

In a strongly worded statement, the Guards said any attack on Iran’s energy facilities would trigger a sweeping response, including the total closure of the Strait — a move that could severely disrupt global oil and gas supplies.

They also warned that companies with U.S. ties could face consequences, and that energy infrastructure in countries hosting American military bases would be considered legitimate targets.

The latest exchange underscores the growing risk of a broader regional conflict, as tensions between Washington and Tehran continue to escalate.

The Strait of Hormuz, through which about a fifth of the world’s oil passes, remains at the centre of the crisis, with fears that any prolonged disruption could send global energy markets into further turmoil.
