A family of six, including four children, was killed on Tuesday after an Israeli airstrike hit their home in Gaza City, according to Palestinian health officials.

Medics said the strike targeted a house in the Sabra neighbourhood, killing Firas Al-Masri, his wife Salsabeel, and their four children three daughters and a son.

The attack also set the family home on fire.

The Israeli military confirmed carrying out the strike, saying it had targeted a Hamas operative and that it was reviewing the outcome of the operation.

In a separate statement, the military said it had killed three militants from Hamas and Islamic Jihad in strikes since Friday.

It alleged that two of them participated in the October 7, 2023 attack on southern Israel and were involved in holding Israeli hostages.

According to Gaza health authorities, more than 1,150 Palestinians, most of them civilians, have been killed in Israeli attacks since a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas took effect in October. Hamas does not routinely disclose the number of its fighters killed.

Although the truce halted large-scale fighting, Israeli forces have continued near-daily strikes across the enclave, saying they are targeting militant infrastructure and operatives.

Four Israeli soldiers have also been killed by militants in Gaza during the same period, according to Israeli authorities.

The war began on October 7, 2023, when Hamas-led fighters attacked southern Israel, killing about 1,200 people and taking roughly 250 hostages, according to Israeli figures.

Gaza health officials say Israel’s military campaign has since killed more than 73,000 Palestinians.
