Terrorists of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) stock have reportedly attacked formations of the Nigeria Army in Borno State, killed five persons and injured two others in the process.

The attack, according to cyber intelligence and counter terrorism sources, took place over the weekend in two separate attacks.

The first was an attack targeting a checkpoint manned by Nigerian army personnel and pro-government militiamen in the town of Warza in Nigeria’s northeastern Borno State and allegedly killed three persons and wounded two others.

The second attack targeted a convoy of pro-government militiamen on the road to the town of Fulka (near Gwoza) in Borno State, reportedly killing two persons.

Earlier, last week, on October 4, ISWAP, an ally of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), had claimed responsibility for ambushing a pro-government militia convoy on the road between the towns of Gwoza and Volka in Nigeria’s northeastern Borno State, and reportedly killed two persons.

In the meantime, according to Mr. Evan Kohlmann of the Terrorism, Cyberintelligence, and the Dark Web, twenty-nine per cent of all the attacks claimed by ISIS for the month of September took place in Nigeria.

The attacks consist of more than any other nation worldwide and almost twice the comparative tally of ISIS attacks in Iraq.

Also, during September, ISIS claimed attacks in at least seven different Nigerian states, including Borno, Adamawa, Yobe, Ondo, Edo, Kogi, and Kano.

According to available data, more than 75 per cent of the attacks took place specifically in Nigeria’s northeastern Borno State. Read more.
