LIVERPOOL, England — New Liverpool defender Jeremy Jacquet says he has quickly settled into life at Anfield, praising the warm welcome he has received from teammates while describing fellow summer signing Jeremie Frimpong as someone who brings energy and humour to the dressing room.
Jacquet officially completed his move to Liverpool this summer after the Premier League champions agreed a deal for the 21-year-old during the January transfer window. The French defender has spent the past few weeks training with his new teammates as the club prepares for the 2026/27 campaign under new head coach Andoni Iraola.
Speaking about his early experiences at the club, Jacquet said Liverpool’s players had made the transition much easier by helping him settle into his new environment.
He explained that he is gradually building relationships across the squad and enjoying the opportunity to get to know everyone both on and off the training ground. While naming several players he has spent time with, Jacquet singled out Dutch full-back Jeremie Frimpong for his lively personality.
“I spend a lot of time talking with Trey Nyoni and Leo Giovanni Leoni, and I often chat with Hugo Ekitike too,” Jacquet said. “But I speak with everyone. I also spend a lot of time with Jeremie Frimpong, who’s off his head, by the way.”
His comments reflected the positive atmosphere within Liverpool’s squad as the players continue preparations for the new season.
Jacquet also expressed gratitude to Liverpool supporters, revealing that fans had welcomed him long before he officially arrived on Merseyside. He said the messages of encouragement he received had made a strong impression and motivated him ahead of his first season with the club.
The defender could make his unofficial debut during Liverpool’s busy pre-season schedule, with the Reds beginning their preparations against Sunderland before facing Wrexham, Leeds United, Monaco and Como in subsequent fixtures.
Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola has already expressed confidence in the youngster’s ability to compete immediately. The Spaniard said he had followed Jacquet’s progress before the transfer was completed and believes the defender possesses the qualities required to strengthen Liverpool’s back line.
Iraola acknowledged that Jacquet ended last season recovering from a shoulder injury but confirmed that the defender has now fully recovered after returning to training with the club’s Under-21 side. According to the Liverpool boss, the Frenchman is physically ready to compete from the start of the campaign.
Liverpool will open their 2026/27 Premier League season with a trip to St. James’ Park to face Newcastle United, where Jacquet will hope to challenge for a place in Iraola’s squad after using pre-season to adapt to his new surroundings and continue building chemistry with his teammates.
