Jandor meets Tinubu at Aso Rock amid political realignments

On Monday, Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran (Jandor), Lagos PDP’s 2023 governorship candidate, privately met President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa.

Notably, Jandor, a prominent opposition figure, previously contested the APC’s longstanding electoral dominance.

Officials reportedly held a meeting from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., but they did not announce it publicly beforehand. Sources later confirmed the undisclosed session occurred without prior notice.

Jandor, who recently resigned from the PDP citing “indiscipline and anti-party activities,” has yet to disclose his next political move.

His departure from the party comes after a turbulent election season in which he accused the PDP’s national leadership of undermining his campaign in Lagos.

According to Jandor, a last-minute claim of an alliance with another party misled PDP supporters, costing him the election.

In the March 2023 gubernatorial race, Jide Sanwo-Olu, the incumbent governor and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), secured a decisive victory with 762,134 votes.

Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour of the Labour Party garnered 312,329 votes, while Jandor trailed with 62,449 votes.

Jandor’s resignation letter reflected his disillusionment with the PDP’s leadership at both state and national levels.

“I am here before you today without a heavy heart and a clear conscience.

We have dedicated ourselves to the ideals of democracy—both good governance and the pursuit of a better Lagos,” he wrote.

He accused the party of abandoning core principles, announcing plans to consult widely before selecting his next political platform.

Meanwhile, Aso Rock insiders labeled Jandor’s Tinubu meeting a “fence-mending move,” signaling early shifts ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 elections.

Analysts speculate Jandor may rejoin his former party, the APC, though discussions remain private. He exited the PDP during his Lagos governorship campaign.

Recently, Jandor engaged prominent cross-party figures, visiting ex-heads of state Babangida and Abdulsalami in Minna. He also met former Vice President Atiku.

Additionally, he held talks with SDP officials, further fueling speculation about his political future.

As Nigeria’s political landscape begins to take shape for the next election cycle, Jandor’s moves are being closely watched.

His consultations and high-profile meetings suggest that he is positioning himself strategically for future political opportunities.

Whether this signals a return to his APC roots or alignment with another platform remains to be seen.
