Michael Fanone slams Trump, calls him 'petty'

Former Washington D.C. police officer Michael Fanone has delivered scathing remarks aimed at Donald Trump and top Republican figures, accusing them of being “petty bitches.”

His remarks reportedly come from their refusal to install a congressionally mandated plaque.

The plaque is meant to honor the law enforcement officers who defended the U.S. Capitol during the January 6, 2021 attack carried out by Trump supporters.

Fanone expressed his outrage during a recent appearance on Jim Acosta’s show.

He highlighted what he sees as the GOP’s continued failure to acknowledge or properly honor the sacrifices made by police officers on that day.

Fanone, who suffered severe injuries while defending the Capitol, directed particular ire at Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson.

Suggesting where Johnson could place the plaque, Fanone said, “I think it would be perfect if the plaque was shoved up his ass.”

His language, though brash, echoes the frustration of many officers who feel abandoned by lawmakers they once protected.

For Fanone and others, the refusal to install the plaque isn’t just a delay—it’s a deliberate act of disrespect toward the officers who risked their lives during the riot.

The attack on the Capitol came in the aftermath of Trump’s loss to Democrat Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election.

Trump’s supporters stormed the building in a bid to stop the certification of Biden’s victory, resulting in violence and chaos.

The assault led to several deaths, including the suicides of officers who were emotionally and psychologically devastated by the experience.

Despite the gravity of the events, Trump has repeatedly downplayed their seriousness and cast the attackers as patriots rather than criminals.

Following Trump’s return to the White House after the 2024 election, he issued sweeping pardons and commutations for over 1,500 individuals charged in connection with the January 6 insurrection.

These included many who had violently clashed with police.

Notably, one of those pardoned had been sentenced to 12 years for using a stun gun on Fanone.

The decision to free someone who assaulted a law enforcement officer only deepened the rift between Trump and many within the police community.

In response to the bravery shown by officers on January 6, Congress, during President Biden’s tenure in 2022, passed a bill mandating the installation of a commemorative plaque at the Capitol.

This legislation was designed to formally honor the officers who stood against the mob.

However, Republican leaders, led by Johnson, have stalled its placement.

When Acosta asked Fanone about the delay, he said that most officers would indeed like to see the plaque installed as the law requires.

Fanone went further, accusing Republicans of struggling to follow the law in general.

He referenced Trump’s criminal conviction for falsifying business records related to hush money payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels.

This reportedly suggested that such behavior reflects a broader pattern of legal disregard among the GOP leadership.

Fanone emphasized that Capitol police officers are not looking for rewards or accolades, they simply want acknowledgment of their service.

He stressed that his call for Johnson to “shove it up his ass” represented not just his own feelings, but those of many officers who feel similarly betrayed.

“They’re not going to beg Mike Johnson to put this plaque up,” Fanone said.

“Me telling him to shove it up his ass—that’s coming from a whole lot of cops that fought their asses off on January 6.”

He also said that most Republican leaders are no different than Trump, labeling them all as “petty bitches.”

This supposedly echoed his earlier remarks and expressing his belief that they have collectively abandoned those who defended democracy that day.

Fanone, who authored a 2022 memoir titled Hold the Line: The Insurrection and One Cop’s Battle for America’s Soul, has been a vocal critic of Trump and the Republican Party.

In a separate incident earlier this year, Enrique Tarrio, the former leader of the Proud Boys, publicly called Fanone and fellow officers “fucking cowards” at a summit of anti-Trump conservatives.

Tarrio had previously received a 22-year sentence for seditious conspiracy related to the Capitol attack, but Trump also pardoned him.

Despite these actions, Trump continues to portray himself as a supporter of law enforcement.

A recent social media post from his administration read, “Many politicians say they back the blue—then betray them.

Never President Trump.” One of the first responses to the post read, “Trump backs the blue unless they work at the Capitol building.”

Echoing this sentiment, Fanone told Acosta that officers who were there on January 6 understand exactly how Republican lawmakers and much of the country truly feel about them.

“They’re tired of being pandered to,” he said.
