Nigerian-British actor John Boyega has welcomed his first biological child, a baby boy, with his wife, American actress and model Lashontae Heckard, popularly known as Tae Heckard, marking a new chapter in the actor’s family life.
The 34-year-old Star Wars star announced the happy news on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, through a post on Instagram featuring photographs of himself and Heckard, alongside a video of him gently cradling their newborn.
Boyega expressed gratitude to those who had congratulated the couple, revealing that their bundle of joy had arrived some time ago.
“Our bundle of joy has been with us for some time now but thank you for all the well wishes,” the actor wrote.
He also shared another family update, asking fans to wish his sister well as she prepares to welcome her own baby.
Heckard, who is reportedly 48, responded to the post with an affectionate message, writing, “Love and blessings to my Blessing!!!!” Her comment and the couple’s photographs drew further attention to their relationship, which they had largely kept away from the public eye.
The announcement follows Boyega’s revelation earlier this month that he had been married for almost two years. In an interview with The Guardian published on October 4, the actor casually confirmed his marital status while discussing the wedding ring on his finger.
“I’ve been married for coming up to two years now,” he said, explaining that he and his wife had opted for a small, private ceremony.
During the interview, Boyega also disclosed that they were expecting a boy, expressing how fulfilled he felt about building a family. He hinted that the couple would like to organise a bigger wedding celebration in the future, joking that they would have to “shut Nigeria down” when the time comes.
Although he did not identify his wife during that interview, his subsequent Instagram post featuring Heckard and their newborn made their relationship public.
Boyega, who rose to international fame playing Finn in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, has also appeared in productions including The Woman King and Small Axe. Born in London to Nigerian parents, the actor has built a successful career in Hollywood while maintaining strong ties to his Nigerian heritage.
Heckard is an actress and model best known for her appearance as Jasmine in the television series The Game. She has also featured in other screen projects and music videos. She shares a son with former NBA player Brandon Jennings, making Boyega a stepfather before the arrival of their child together.
The couple’s announcement has drawn congratulatory messages from fans and fellow entertainers, including actor Tyrese Gibson, who celebrated their growing family.
