(DDM) – Former President Goodluck Jonathan has publicly commended Hon. Kenneth Gbandi, Chair of the Nigerians in Diaspora Organization (NIDOE), for spearheading programs that aim to boost patriotism, entrepreneurship, and economic growth in Nigeria.

According to Jonathan, the recognition is a testament to the value of initiatives that encourage national pride and active civic participation among Nigerians, both at home and abroad.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that Hon. Gbandi’s programs have been running for several years, targeting Nigerians living overseas with mentorship, entrepreneurial training, and civic engagement projects. These initiatives are intended to bridge the gap between Nigerians abroad and domestic development efforts.

Hon. Gbandi expressed that the commendation from a former president is deeply humbling and serves as a reminder that political leadership should prioritize service to the people.

“Recognition of this nature is deeply humbling. It reminds us that leadership must always serve the people,” he stated during a press briefing.

He emphasized that his political and civic mission focuses on upholding responsible leadership, promoting clean politics, and ensuring that Nigerians remain at the center of policy decisions.

In a statement, Gbandi stressed that his approach combines grassroots engagement with global exposure, seeking to align international support with local development initiatives. “Our mission remains clear: to uphold responsible leadership, promote clean politics, and work toward a future where Nigerians come first. 2027 will be no different,” he said.

DDM analysis highlights that such diaspora-focused programs play a critical role in leveraging global Nigerian talent and resources to address domestic challenges. Countries across Africa have increasingly relied on their diaspora networks for investment, entrepreneurship, and policy advocacy.

NIDOE’s work under Gbandi focuses on mentorship programs for young Nigerians abroad, providing financial literacy workshops, and organizing forums on civic responsibility. The organization also facilitates connections between overseas investors and local entrepreneurs to foster economic growth.

Political analysts note that Gbandi’s recognition by Jonathan, a former president with a long political legacy, signals growing acceptance of diaspora engagement as a legitimate force in national development.

However, critics argue that such praise can carry political undertones, potentially positioning Gbandi as a rising figure ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle in Delta North. Supporters insist that the emphasis on accountability, transparency, and clean politics distinguishes his platform from traditional party politics.

DDM reports that Gbandi’s campaign messaging focuses on “A Fresh Voice for Delta North, Global Exposure, Grassroots, Accountability, Clean Politics,” underscoring the dual strategy of combining local community engagement with international insights.

Observers believe that recognition from a high-profile leader like Jonathan can enhance Gbandi’s credibility while intensifying debates about leadership, political succession, and the influence of the diaspora in shaping Nigeria’s political and economic landscape.

Experts say that for Nigerian politics, the case of Hon. Gbandi exemplifies the increasing importance of merging civic responsibility, international networks, and grassroots mobilization as key pillars of modern political leadership.

This development continues to spark discussions across media platforms about the evolving role of the diaspora in governance and the ethical expectations of emerging political leaders ahead of critical national elections.
