Jonathan reveals calls urging him to speak on Rivers crisis
DDM News

Former Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan, has spoken about the political crisis in Rivers State and the pressure on him to intervene.
According to Diaspora digital media (DDM) reports, Jonathan served as Nigeria’s president from 2010 to 2015 after previously holding office as the vice president from 2007 to 2010.
He became Nigeria’s first president from the South-South region, gaining international recognition for his leadership and democratic principles.
Jonathan is widely respected for conceding defeat in Nigeria’s 2015 presidential election, making history in the country’s democratic development.
The crisis in Rivers State stems from the conflict between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, over political control.
The situation worsened after the Supreme Court ruled that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) should stop disbursing Rivers’ financial allocation.
Following this ruling, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu declared a state of emergency, suspending Fubara, his deputy, and the state lawmakers.
Jonathan revealed in a video that people called on him, urging him to address the situation publicly.
“When the issue of suspending the governor came up, people called on me, saying, ‘President Jonathan, please say something,’” he said.
The political tension in Rivers State has attracted nationwide attention, with concerns about governance and the rule of law.
Observers believe the crisis could have lasting implications for the state’s stability and political alliances in the region.
The conflict between Fubara and Wike, who were once close allies, has deepened divisions within the state’s political structure.
The Supreme Court’s restriction on Rivers’ funds and the federal government’s intervention have raised concerns about constitutional authority.
Jonathan’s remarks highlight the level of public concern over the escalating situation in Rivers.
