Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has revealed the private advice he gave Vinicius Junior during a crucial period of negotiations that ultimately helped convince the Brazilian forward to remain at the Santiago Bernabeu rather than accept a move to Premier League champions Arsenal.
Vinicius had entered the final year of his previous Real Madrid contract, creating serious uncertainty over his future. With negotiations reportedly experiencing difficulties, Arsenal emerged as one of the clubs most interested in taking advantage of the situation.
The Gunners had been monitoring the Brazilian’s contract situation and were understood to have made contact with his representatives. “Obviously I talked to him, but Vinicius has fallen in love with Real Madrid,” Mourinho said.

“Vini, where do you want to go? You’ve only been in Brazil and you only know Real Madrid. You only understand Real Madrid when you leave. When you leave, that’s when you realise what Real Madrid is. Don’t leave. It’s not worth it.”

Rather than attempting to persuade Vinicius with financial arguments, the manager focused on the emotional and sporting value of representing one of the biggest clubs in the history of the game.
