Josephine Adeh calls for fairness, respect amidst public criticism

Abuja, Nigeria – On May 23, 2025, SP Josephine Adeh, the Public Relations Officer of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, spoke out against the lack of appreciation for the Nigerian Police Force (NPF).
Through her official X (formerly Twitter) account, she highlighted the daily dangers officers face while urging the public to adopt a fairer perspective.
She emphasized that while criticism is valid, recognition of officers’ sacrifices is equally important.
SP Adeh expressed disappointment over social media’s tendency to amplify negativity while ignoring officers’ commendable efforts. “Despite the immense risks we take daily, the public often overlooks our contributions,” she stated. She acknowledged that no institution is perfect but stressed that generalizing misconduct unfairly tarnishes the entire force. Many officers demonstrate unwavering commitment, courage, and sacrifice to protect citizens.
Comparing Nigeria to other nations, SP Adeh noted that global law enforcement faces scrutiny but operates within a balanced framework of accountability and respect. She urged Nigerians to adopt a similar approach, discouraging unnecessary provocation of officers on duty. “Constructive criticism is necessary, but so is acknowledging lawful and brave service,” she added.
To address misconduct concerns, SP Adeh encouraged citizens to use official reporting channels like the Nigeria Police Complaints Response Unit. She provided a direct contact (08107314192), assuring prompt and serious handling of grievances. “Accountability matters, but fairness must guide our interactions,” she reiterated.
Her statement has sparked mixed reactions online, with some supporting her call for respect while others demand stronger reforms. This dialogue underscores the ongoing struggle to build trust between law enforcement and communities. Achieving balance requires mutual effort—holding officers accountable while honoring their sacrifices.
Ultimately, SP Adeh’s message advocates for a collaborative relationship. “Let us foster respect and understanding on both sides,” she urged. By doing so, Nigeria can create a safer, more harmonious society where police and citizens work together for justice and peace.
