At least 27 people have been killed in a recent attack by heavily armed bandits in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The attack, which occurred on Saturday, is part of a growing wave of insecurity in the area.
The criminal elements, reportedly equipped with sophisticated weapons, invaded the community, leaving residents traumatized.
This incident is not an isolated one, as Yagba West has been facing a series of deadly bandit attacks.
On Friday, a woman and her two children were abducted from their home in Bareke, Egbe, which is close to Senator Sunday Karimi’s residence.
The woman’s husband escaped with injuries. Similarly, on Thursday, a commercial bus was attacked in Ejiba, and all passengers were kidnapped, with a motorcyclist reportedly killed.
The Nigerian Army has been working to combat banditry in Kogi State, with some recent successes.
In September, troops killed a notorious bandit leader, Babangida Kachala, who was part of Kachala Bala Shuaibu’s group operating in the state.
The Army has reassured residents of its determination to restore lasting peace and security.
Residents of Yagba West are concerned about their safety and are making urgent pleas for assistance.
The attacks have prompted mass displacement, with many seeking safety elsewhere.
The state government and security agencies are working to address the security challenges and prevent further attacks.
