An Appeal Court sitting in Benin, the capital of Edo State has reaffirmed Barrister Julius Abure as the authentic National Chairman of the Labour Party.
This court ruling comes after a long leadership battle within the party, which had resulted to multiple legal disputes over the position.
In its decision, the appellate court struck out any challenge to Abure’s leadership, confirming him as the legitimate leader of the party at the national level.
Moreover, this convoluted verdict is expected to bring an end to the internal bad blood that has plagued the opposition party in the last few months.
Meanwhile, in a statement made by Barrister Agbo Casmir Uchenna, chairman of Labour Party Enugu State chapter, on behalf of the spokesman of the party, Chief Obiora Ifoh urged LP members to remain steadfast in supporting the leadership of the party in their various states.
The statement reads, “The Court of Appeal sitting in Benin has again validated Barr Julius Abure as the authentic National Chairman of LP in Nigeria.
“LP therefore urge our members throughout the Country to be steadfast in supporting the leadership of the party in their various states.
“We also urge our members to begin by paying their monthly dues of 200 naira in accordance with the dictates of the constitution. We will not and we mean not tolerate any act of disobedience to party leadership in various states. Thanks for your unalloyed support.”
