JUST IN: Anambra Powers Ahead with Roads, Reforms, and Results

The Anambra State Government has successfully completed the construction of a fourth dual carriageway, marking a significant milestone in its efforts to enhance connectivity across the state.
This project effectively links four major urban centers, facilitating smoother traffic movement and improving regional accessibility.
The newly finished beltway is expected to significantly ease travel and commerce across the state.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, announced that the state government has also earmarked ₦31.6 billion for additional infrastructure projects.
Among them is the dualisation of the Ekwulobia to Nnobi Road, a major undertaking aimed at completing the full linkage of the four key cities via dual carriageways.
This investment underscores the government’s commitment to sustained infrastructure development and regional integration.
Dr. Mefor explained that these projects were reviewed and approved during the 14th Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) meeting, held at the government’s headquarters, the “Light House,” in Awka.
He noted that aside from road construction, the Council deliberated on several other developmental issues, including business reforms and public service participation in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
As part of its broader governance strategy, the Executive Council also reviewed and approved a progress report on the 2024 Business Enabling Reforms Action Plan.
This initiative is part of Anambra’s commitment to the national Business Enabling Reform Programme, designed to improve the ease of doing business within the state.
The reforms, according to Dr. Mefor, are assessed annually to ensure progress, sustainability, and positive outcomes for local enterprises.
The Council’s statement emphasized that reforms have already yielded tangible benefits across multiple sectors.
Improvements have been recorded in:
- land administration,
- infrastructure investments,
- business process efficiency,
- investor protection,
- tax management, and,
- access to justice through the establishment of small claims courts.
These reforms, the government says, reflect a growing commitment to creating a more business-friendly environment.
In a gesture of national solidarity, the ANSEC meeting also included a moment of silence in honor of former Nigerian President and Head of State, Muhammadu Buhari, who recently passed away in a hospital in London.
The council expressed condolences to the late leader’s family and to the nation at large.
Highlighting some of the new contracts approved, Dr. Mefor revealed that the Ekwulobia to Nnobi Dualisation Road Project spans approximately 32.6 kilometers and has been awarded to Geld Construction Ltd at a total cost of ₦28.85 billion.
This road is pivotal to finalizing the state’s beltway system.
Other projects approved by the Council include:
The supply and installation of mechanical equipment at the College of Nursing Sciences, awarded to Crystal Dove Construction Company Ltd for ₦110.65 million.
Construction of a metallic viewpoint barricade at the Light House in Awka, contracted to Muterbonch & Company Nig Ltd for ₦488.43 million.
A geophysical survey and mapping initiative covering over 2,000 hectares, with a ₦95.82 million contract awarded to Calyzid Ventures.
Completion of outstanding road sections in the Okpoko area, with a ₦2.03 billion contract granted to IDC Construction Ltd.
Procurement and installation of digital multi-band jammers for security operations, assigned to Intertrek Solutions and Services for ₦96.86 million.
On the civic engagement front, the Executive Council discussed the ongoing CVR exercise.
It urged public sector supervisors to grant permission to staff members with valid proof to participate in voter registration.
This decision is aimed at ensuring inclusive democratic participation as the state continues to prepare for upcoming electoral processes.
The ANSEC resolutions, encompassing infrastructure expansion, administrative reforms, and civic engagement, reflect Anambra’s strategic focus on development, governance, and public accountability.
With substantial investments and reform programs underway, the state government reiterates its vision for a more connected, business-friendly, and citizen-focused Anambra.
