JUST IN: APC Declares War on Ethnic Politics, Fake News Ahead 2027 General Elections

As Nigeria prepares for the 2027 general elections, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called for a decisive campaign against the growing use of ethnicity, religion, and misinformation as political tools.

Speaking at a capacity-building seminar for the party’s zonal and state publicity secretaries, APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, and Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, stressed the urgent need to address these divisive tactics.

They also highlighted the nned to defend the integrity of the political process.

Basiru expressed deep concern over the increasing polarization of Nigerian politics.

He lamented that the ethnic and religious fault lines seen during and after the 2023 elections were far more pronounced than in previous decades.

He pointed to the widespread dissemination of misleading content, often using unrelated foreign images, as part of a deliberate misinformation campaign.

He also criticized political actors who, despite poor governance records, distract public attention with lofty comparisons to foreign models while neglecting pressing issues in their own communities.

Highlighting President Bola Tinubu’s bold economic reforms, Basiru noted that the removal of the fuel subsidy and the unification of exchange rates have laid the groundwork for economic recovery.

According to him, it has also attracted renewed investor confidence.

He argued that contrary to predictions of economic collapse, the naira has stabilised, oil production has increased to 1.7 million barrels per day, and Nigeria’s fiscal outlook has improved.

Basiru further criticised a recurring trend in which international commendation of Nigeria’s economic progress under the APC is often ignored, while criticism is amplified by opposition elements.

He stressed the importance of APC communicators embracing facts and showcasing the achievements of the Tinubu administration in strengthening the economy and governance structures.

Echoing these sentiments, Minister Dele Alake underscored the significance of the federal government’s macroeconomic reforms.

He hailed President Tinubu’s decision to remove the fuel subsidy, a longstanding drain on Nigeria’s resources.

According to him, it was a transformative step that many previous administrations recognized but lacked the courage to implement.

The dual exchange rate system, which he described as another “hydra-headed economic monster,” was also abolished, bringing about a more transparent and efficient forex market.

Alake explained that these major reforms have freed up more revenue for both federal and sub-national governments.

States and local governments are now receiving larger allocations, allowing many of them to clear debts and embark on vital infrastructure projects.

This, he argued, is a foundational step toward broad-based economic recovery and employment generation.

Addressing concerns over the rising cost of living, Alake explained that while price hikes reflect short-term microeconomic challenges, the federal government’s focus on stabilizing the macroeconomic environment will eventually lead to positive outcomes.

With increased revenue at the state level, infrastructure development and job creation are expected to expand, ultimately boosting production and strengthening the naira.

He emphasized that rebuilding the economy is a gradual process that begins with bold policy choices.

The President’s approach, he said, lays a solid foundation for sustainable growth.

In the long run, expanded productivity and employment will enhance Nigerians’ purchasing power and reduce inflationary pressure.

The APC’s message to its spokespersons is clear: they must take the lead in countering false narratives, promoting unity, and ensuring that the party’s accomplishments are effectively communicated.

As the 2027 elections approach, the APC is positioning itself not only as a party of reform but as a bulwark against the forces of division and deception.

In sum, the APC leadership is urging a robust, facts-based defense of national unity and economic progress, while calling out efforts to sow discord through religious and ethnic manipulation.

The party remains firm in its stance that responsible governance and truthful public engagement are essential to Nigeria’s democratic and developmental future.
