Babangida’s Son Sets Record Straight on Tinubu’s BoA Appointment

Muhammed Babangida, son of former military President Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, has officially accepted his appointment as chairman of the Bank of Agriculture (BOA).
His statement directly contradicts viral reports claiming he had rejected the role.
Several media platforms had earlier circulated news suggesting Babangida declined the position due to personal and professional concerns.
However, in a press release issued on Monday, Babangida confirmed his full acceptance.
He expressed deep gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for the opportunity to serve.
“We wish to clarify that Muhammed gratefully accepts the appointment as Chairman of the Bank of Agriculture,” the statement read. “He extends sincere appreciation to President Tinubu for the trust and confidence bestowed upon him.”
He described the earlier reports as “false and malicious,” accusing their sources of attempting to mislead the public and discredit the Tinubu administration.
“These reports are false and malicious,” the statement continued. “They are a deliberate attempt to misinform the public and tarnish the image of the President’s administration.”
Babangida’s team further assured Nigerians that those behind the falsehoods would face legal consequences.
“Those spreading these lies will be thoroughly investigated and brought to justice,” it added.
The statement also emphasized Babangida’s commitment to national development.
It noted his readiness to contribute positively to the agricultural sector through the Bank of Agriculture’s leadership.
As part of his message, Babangida urged Nigerians to stay alert against misinformation.
“We call on all citizens to remain discerning,” he said. “Please verify information from credible sources before spreading it.”
The Bank of Agriculture plays a critical role in supporting farmers, agribusinesses, and rural communities. As chairman, Babangida will oversee key financing and development projects aimed at boosting food security.
This appointment comes as President Tinubu doubles down on food production and rural development.
His administration has made agriculture a priority to fight inflation and unemployment.
For now, Nigerians await Babangida’s next steps as he officially assumes his role.
