Suspected bandits have abducted the Deputy Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Hon. Samaila Bambu, in Bagudo, his hometown in Bagudo Local Government Area.
Local sources confirmed that the abduction took place on Friday evening when heavily armed men believed to be members of the Lakurawa terror group invaded the area. The attackers reportedly stormed the community in large numbers and whisked away the lawmaker before security operatives could intervene.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Kebbi State Governor, Ahmed Idris, confirmed the incident late Friday night. He said he had just received initial information about the abduction and was in contact with state security officials.
“Yes, I just got the information about the alleged abduction of the Deputy Speaker in his hometown this evening. I am in touch with the Director of Security in the state,” Idris said.
He assured the public that the state government had taken immediate steps to handle the situation and was working closely with security agencies to secure the lawmaker’s release.
“Once I get the details of what transpired, I will alert you on the government’s position. I can assure you that the state government is on top of the situation and will ensure he is released safely,” Idris added.
As of the time of this report, security operatives had been deployed to Bagudo and nearby communities to track down the kidnappers and rescue the abducted lawmaker.
The incident adds to the growing wave of insecurity in the Northwest, where armed groups have repeatedly targeted public officials, commuters, and rural residents in a series of violent attacks.
Residents of Bagudo have since expressed fear over the worsening security situation in the area, urging the government to intensify patrols and strengthen intelligence operations.
