(DDM) – A scheduled meeting of the independent vaccine advisory committee to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has been canceled, according to a spokesperson for the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
The committee, which typically convenes to review data and provide recommendations on vaccine use in the United States, had been expected to meet next week. However, officials confirmed that the meeting will no longer take place as planned.
In a brief statement, an HHS spokesperson said, “Further information will be shared as available,” without offering additional details regarding the reason for the cancellation or whether the meeting would be rescheduled.
According to a person familiar with the situation, the decision to cancel the meeting was made based on guidance from HHS. The individual, who requested anonymity because the information had not yet been made public at the time, indicated that internal direction influenced the move.
Another source also speaking on condition of anonymity said that as of Wednesday night, members of the advisory committee had not yet been formally notified about the change in status of the meeting.
The CDC’s vaccine advisory committee, formally known as the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), plays a significant role in shaping national vaccine policy. Its recommendations often influence immunization schedules and coverage decisions across the country.
