JUST IN: Civilians Killed Again at Gaza Aid Hub Amid Chaos

Published

on

Palestinian media outlets have on Saturday, reported a tragic incident at the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) facility in northwest Rafah, where aid seekers were reportedly shot dead and injured while attempting to access humanitarian assistance.

This event, local media reports say, adds to a growing and deeply concerning pattern of violence surrounding aid distribution in Gaza amid the ongoing conflict and blockade.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have acknowledged the reports and stated that they are investigating the matter.

However, the circumstances remain highly contentious, with conflicting narratives between Palestinian witnesses and Israeli authorities.

Palestinian health officials and eyewitnesses claim that Israeli forces opened fire on crowds of civilians approaching the GHF aid distribution sites, resulting in numerous casualties.

Conversely, the IDF denies firing directly at civilians, asserting that warning shots were fired at suspected individuals posing security threats.

The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation itself has denied that any deadly incidents occurred at its facilities, releasing footage purportedly showing orderly aid distribution.

The United Nations has highlighted the gravity of the situation, reporting that nearly 800 Palestinians have been killed while trying to access aid in Gaza since late May 2025.

Majority of these deaths have reportedly been occurring near GHF distribution points.

The UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) has described these killings as potentially constituting war crimes.

It emphasized that the militarization of humanitarian aid and restrictions on civilians’ access to life-sustaining services violate international law.

The GHF was established as a US- and Israeli-backed initiative purportedly to ensure that aid reaches Palestinians without diversion by Hamas.

However, this new aid distribution system has been widely criticized by UN agencies and humanitarian organizations for violating established humanitarian principles.

Unlike traditional aid organizations such as UNRWA, which use verified registries to distribute assistance, the GHF reportedly does not screen recipients.

This has reportedly led to chaotic scenes and increased risks for civilians.

Humanitarian groups argue that the GHF’s approach has turned aid distribution into a deadly ordeal for Palestinians.

According to these groups, it has forced them into overcrowded and militarized zones where they are vulnerable to attacks.

The violence around these aid sites is not isolated.

Since the GHF began operations on May 27, 2025, hundreds of Palestinians have been killed or wounded while trying to reach or receive aid.

Reports indicate that both the IDF and private security contractors employed by the GHF have used live ammunition and stun grenades against crowds.

The Gaza Health Ministry has described the aid sites as “human slaughterhouses,” reflecting the scale of casualties and the dire humanitarian situation.

Eyewitness accounts paint a harrowing picture: thousands of Palestinians gather hours before dawn to receive food aid, only to be met with gunfire from Israeli forces positioned about 300 meters away.

Victims often suffer gunshot wounds to the upper body, including the head, neck, and chest.

Medical facilities, such as the International Committee of the Red Cross field hospital in Rafah, have been overwhelmed with casualties, many of whom are women and children.

The scenes at hospitals and aid sites have been described as horrific, with survivors recounting chaos and fear amid the violence.

The international community has expressed alarm over these developments.

The UN and over 170 charities and NGOs, including Save the Children and Oxfam, have condemned the GHF’s operations, calling for the immediate closure of its aid distribution scheme.

Amnesty International has accused the foundation of violating humanitarian norms and contributing to what it terms as acts of genocide against Palestinians.

The American nonprofit Center for Constitutional Rights has suggested that the GHF could be legally liable for complicity in war crimes and crimes against humanity.

The militarization of aid in Gaza, coupled with the ongoing Israeli blockade and hostilities, has created a catastrophic humanitarian crisis.

The weaponization of food and aid access has led to widespread starvation and suffering among Gaza’s two million residents.

Vulnerable groups, including women, children, the elderly, and disabled, face multiple barriers to obtaining food and medical care.

The UN has warned that the failure to facilitate humanitarian operations at sufficient scale is exacerbating the crisis and causing unnecessary civilian deaths.

In summary, the reported shootings at the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation facility in northwest Rafah are part of a broader, deeply troubling pattern of violence against Palestinians seeking aid in Gaza.

Despite denials from the IDF and GHF, the evidence and eyewitness testimonies underscore the lethal risks faced by civilians attempting to access humanitarian assistance.

The international community continues to call for accountability, adherence to humanitarian principles, and an end to the militarization of aid that places innocent lives in jeopardy.

The situation remains fluid, with investigations ongoing, but the urgent need for safe, impartial, and effective aid delivery in Gaza is undeniable.
