JUST IN: Coup d’états in Niger Republic, president detained

A coup d’état has been reported in Niger Republic, with the President of Niger Republic, Mahamadou Issoufou, detained at the Government House.

Meanwhile, the ECOWAS Commission President, Dr Omar Alieu Touray, has briefed the United Nations Security Council on the security situation in the region.

He acknowledged that terrorism, insurgency and illegal alteration of national constitutions is rife and some of the drivers of insecurity, human displacements and political instability in the region of 400 million people.
