‘Don’t Visit Without My Permission’ — Edo Governor Threatens Peter Obi (VIDEO)

Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has sparked political tension by issuing a direct warning to Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi.
The governor said Obi must not return to Edo without first informing him, or he would be responsible for any security outcome.
Okpebholo made the statement on Friday, July 18, during a defection rally in Uromi, Esan North-East Local Government Area.
He was welcoming Marcus Onobun, a former Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly and current federal lawmaker, who dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking to a large crowd, the governor declared:
“The man wey say he no get shishi, I am sending a direct message to him: there is a new sheriff in town. He cannot come to Edo without telling me because his security will never be guaranteed. Whatever happens to him in Edo, he will take it. I am serious.”
His warning referred to Obi’s July 7 visit to Edo, where the former Anambra State governor donated ₦15 million to the School of Nursing at St. Philomena Hospital in Benin.
Okpebholo questioned the credibility of the donation, saying it contradicted Obi’s public persona as a modest man.
“Somebody wey say he no get shishi, where he get ₦15 million to donate? After he left, there was crisis and three people died in Benin. So, tell Obi he must not come without informing me,” Okpebholo said.
In a 57-second viral video from the event, the governor also sang a gospel-styled chant, “No be say we dey craze, na God we dey praise o,” as the crowd cheered.
Okpebholo used the occasion to assert the APC’s growing dominance in Edo State.
He claimed that by 2027, the opposition would be completely wiped out.
“We’re not begging anyone to join APC. They’re coming because they see results. In 2027, 2.5 million votes are guaranteed for Tinubu.”
Marcus Onobun also explained his defection was ideological. “I led the campaign for an Esan governor.
Now that we have one, I must support him. I have seen what Governor Okpebholo is doing. I am back home to help my people.”
The political drama has further heightened speculation around the 2027 elections and Peter Obi’s national influence.
