At least eight people have been confirmed dead, while four others remain missing, following a Boko Haram attack on three communities in Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
The affected villages are Zah, Mubang Yadul and Kijing, where the attackers struck late Monday night.
The Chairman of Hong Local Government Area, Inuwa Usman Wa’aganda, confirmed the incident to LEADERSHIP in a telephone interview on Tuesday. He said security personnel recovered eight bodies from the affected communities, while search efforts were ongoing for four residents still unaccounted for.
“Houses and shops were burnt during the attack, and many residents lost foodstuffs and other means of livelihood,” Wa’aganda said, adding that the assailants fled into nearby bushes before security forces arrived.
He appealed to the state and federal governments to urgently intervene to support displaced residents and facilitate their resettlement.
“It is true that Boko Haram attacked Mubang, Zah and Kijing villages. For now, eight corpses have been recovered, and four persons are still missing,” he said.
A police source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, also confirmed the casualties, describing the incident as “unfortunate” and noting that security agencies had intensified patrols in the area.
The attack has further heightened concerns over renewed insurgent activities in parts of Adamawa State, despite ongoing counterterrorism operations in the North-East.
