JUST IN: Ex-Senate President David Mark resigns from PDP

Former Senate President David Mark has officially announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after over two decades of active membership.

In a personally signed statement made available to Tribune Online on Wednesday, Mark said his decision was driven by deepening internal crises and unresolved leadership issues plaguing the party.

From “Last Man Standing” to Exit

Mark, who represented Benue South Senatorial District from 1999 to 2019, was widely seen as one of the PDP’s most loyal stalwarts.

He previously held the title of Nigeria’s longest-serving Senate President.

“Even when nearly all stakeholders departed after our 2015 presidential loss, I pledged to remain the last man standing,”he stated.

“I worked tirelessly to rebuild and reposition the PDP. But recent developments have reduced it to a shadow of its former self.”

Joins Coalition to Unseat Tinubu

His resignation came just hours after he was named Interim Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC)  a coalition platform formed to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

Former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola was named the interim Secretary of the ADC.

Mark said the coalition was a collective response to Nigeria’s declining democratic standards, insecurity, and economic hardships.

“After wide consultations, I have resolved to join the National Coalition of Political Opposition Movement. Our goal is to rescue our nation.”
