Benue, Nigeria – Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has launched a new security initiative known as the Quick Response Squad (QRS) to address growing insecurity across the state.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports that the QRS is aimed at improving rapid response to security threats, especially in vulnerable and rural communities.
The governor was represented at the inauguration ceremony by his Deputy, Dr. Sam Ode, who highlighted the administration’s commitment to restoring peace and stability
.
The Quick Response Squad is a joint force made up of operatives from the Civilian Protection Guard (CPG), Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), local hunters, and the Joint Task Force (JTF).
According to Dr. Ode, the squad has been specially trained to respond swiftly and decisively to security emergencies, particularly in areas frequently attacked by armed herders and criminal gangs.
“The Alia administration will continue to prioritize security because no meaningful development can happen without peace,” Dr. Ode said.
The launch of the QRS comes amid heightened insecurity in parts of Benue, with local communities calling for stronger and faster intervention from security agencies.
The government believes the initiative will enhance grassroots intelligence, provide immediate deterrence, and complement the efforts of conventional security operatives.
Full operational details and deployment schedules of the new squad are expected to be released in the coming days.
