In the early hours of Wednesday, five worshippers were abducted by armed assailants at a branch of the Celestial Church of Christ in Uso, Owo Local Government Area.
The attack occurred around 1:00 a.m. while a church service was ongoing.
Immediate Response
The Ondo State Police Command confirmed the incident. DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the police spokesperson, said that operatives, in collaboration with the Nigerian Army and local vigilante groups, quickly mobilized to the scene to launch coordinated rescue operations.
Partial Rescue and Arrest
Jimoh disclosed that one of the kidnapped worshippers has been rescued. Additionally, one suspect linked to the abduction has been apprehended and is cooperating with investigators, providing statements that are aiding ongoing operations.
Authorities are continuing efforts to secure the remaining victims and bring all perpetrators to justice. Residents have been urged to stay calm, vigilant, and provide any credible information that could assist security agencies.
This incident comes amid rising security concerns in the Owo area, following previous attacks on churches and other public places in the region.
