Unknown gunmen kill police officers

A tragic incident occurred on Sunday, June 1, 2025, when three unidentified gunmen stormed a residence in Lagos, killing a young child and leaving two adults injured in a brutal home invasion.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that the violent attack took place around 5:00 PM at No. 10 Monshalasi Street, Obalende, a densely populated area on Lagos Island known for frequent security breaches.

The victims were identified as Mr. Oyeleke Nelson Tobi, his wife’s cousin, Janet Arhore, and a visiting child.

At the time of the attack, Mr. Tobi’s wife was reportedly away at church for an evening programme.

Eyewitness accounts and police sources confirm that the gunmen broke into the home and immediately assaulted the occupants.

Mr. Tobi was shot in the leg and lost consciousness, while Janet was physically attacked, with her head slammed against a wall.

The child sustained fatal injuries and died before medical help could arrive.

Mr. Tobi was later revived at a medical facility in Lagos, and Janet is currently receiving treatment for her injuries.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and the assailants had fled the scene before security personnel could intervene.

The Lagos State Police Command confirmed the incident and disclosed that an investigation is underway.

Law enforcement officers have visited the crime scene and are working to gather forensic evidence to aid in identifying the attackers.

Obalende has long grappled with issues of street violence, armed robbery, and cult clashes, despite being one of the oldest neighbourhoods on Lagos Island. While the government has introduced several community policing initiatives in the past, security lapses continue to leave residents exposed to violent crimes.

Authorities are calling on members of the public to assist with credible information that could lead to the arrest of those responsible.

The Lagos State Police Command reassured the public of its commitment to ensuring that the perpetrators of this heinous crime face justice.

The community remains in shock as families mourn the loss of the innocent child, while others pray for the swift recovery of the injured victims.
