Thirteen teenage girls, aged 15 to 20, were abducted by Islamic State West African Province (ISWAP) fighters while working on community farmlands in Mussa, Askira-Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.
The girls were harvesting crops when they were seized, according to Abdullahi Askira, Deputy Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly.
The victims had been relocated from Huyim to Mussa due to security concerns. One girl managed to escape and reunited with her family Sunday morning, but 12 others remain in captivity with their location unknown.
Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, has called on security agencies to intensify rescue efforts and urged residents to stay vigilant, pray for the girls’ safe return, and report any suspicious activity.
