JUST IN: Manchester United fires Ruben Amorim

Manchester United has parted ways with head coach Ruben Amorim after just 14 months.

The Portuguese coach’s departure follows a power struggle with the club’s hierarchy over transfer policy, with Amorim frustrated that his recruitment demands weren’t being met.

Amorim had wanted significant signings in January, but United seemed hesitant to back him, leading to strained relations with director of football Jason Wilcox.

After Sunday’s draw at Leeds, Amorim expressed his frustration, saying he’d stay until his contract ends in 18 months, but United acted swiftly to replace him.

The club cited United’s sixth-place position in the Premier League as the reason for the change, thanking Amorim for his contribution.

United on Monday in a statement said: “With Manchester United sitting sixth in the Premier League, the club’s leadership has reluctantly made the decision that it is the right time to make a change. This will give the team the best opportunity of the highest possible Premier League finish. The club would like to thank Ruben for his contribution to the club and wishes him well for the future.”
